Interview With Kamil Miton, dated October 18, 2005:
Q. This is your second time in Denmark, do you like the Country? A. Yes I do. It’s very expensive though, but the accommodation is good. Q. You are living privately then? A. Yes with Anders and his family, it’s good here, perhaps that is why I have started so well. Q. What is the next tournament on the agenda ? A. Spain or rather Canary Islands. I have friends here to, so I can do some training. Q. Talking of training, how did you learn the game? A. My father did when I was about 5 years old. He checks all my games on the internet and tells my how I stood throughout the game. I am an only one so I’m the only one that plays chess really in the family . Q. Is there many good players coming out of Poland. A. There are many young players but they stop to go to university. There’s no real money in chess so they take up football or one of the other well paid sports. Q. Hasn’t computers helped though? A. Both yes and no. Information comes a lot faster, everyone uses databases or download games. The new programs make analyzing easier, one gets new ideas. But it’s difficult to surprise your opponents these days. Q. What do you do to keep fit? A. I play football, basketball many things. You need lots of energy to play for 7 hours. Q. Who is your idol? A. Botvinnik ! But Topalov and Anand I admire to. Q. Do you like the venue and would you come back? A. The venue is ideal, it’s quiet and peaceful here. The surroundings are wonderful, beautiful scenery. The tournament is well organised, so I would love to come back to samba 3. I have played where there are much to many players so there is a lot of noise,. This tournament is just ideal. Q. What about the food, is it eatable? A. Oh yes, plenty of potatoes just like being back in Poland. I like the Danish food, so I shall have to find a Danish wife ( laughs). Q. What about the future, when are you world champion? A. I don’t know , but I would like to be one day !! Thanks for sharing your time with me and all the best for the future! Colin Watson |
